There was a strong Quorum showing at the Data Saturday Edinburgh event on Saturday 3rd June, with 6 Quorumite speakers (4 of whom were presenting in-person for the first time) across 5 different sessions throughout the day, along with a few friendly Quorum faces among the attendees and volunteers as well!
The conference brought together data professionals from all over the world, with some speakers coming to Edinburgh from across Europe, the US and Israel. It was a brilliant day of networking and talking about data, with attendees and exhibitors who had vast subject matter experience, but also plenty of attendees who wanted to learn more about the data industry and hopefully make a career change.
James Frost spoke about Microsoft Fabric and what it means for the industry, as well as delivering a session with Iain Dobson on ChatGPT, with the demo gods blessing Iain and allowing him to build a trading app using ChatGPT in just 30 minutes!
Olivia Wise delivered an engaging talk on key concepts of data visualisation, which led to some thoughtful discussion on the importance of good data visualisation as well as common best practice.
Rob French successfully delivered a pre-conference training session on the Friday prior to the event on ‘next steps with PowerBI’ by teaching attendees PowerBI best practices and exploring the different tools and concepts offered by the product. He then delivered a session on licensing on the Saturday, which can be a very complex topic to explain (especially with the changes made with Fabric!)
Taylor George and Abhi Jayanty delivered a session on ‘how junior data professionals can bring value to a data team’, and talked about their experiences of looking for a job in data and the steps they’re taking to progress in their data careers. This was delivered as the Quorum sponsor session as it reflects the opportunities and strong culture of learning and development offered by Quorum.
Overall the conference was an amazing opportunity to show Quorum’s commitment to keeping up-to-date with the latest advancements in the industry, as well as the importance given to learning and development by encouraging the team to speak at the event and connect with like-minded professionals and people in the data community. Data as an industry is flourishing right now, and we can’t wait to be a part of that and attend (and speak at) more user groups and conferences going forward!
