How were you introduced to Quorum?

It was right place, right time. Tom (Tom Francis, in Quorum’s Recruitment Team) reached out to me over LinkedIn and I was looking for something new.

I had no prior knowledge of Quorum before that, but it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for.  

Tell me a bit about your role?

I’m a project manager in the PMO team working with a variety of teams and clients across Quorum. 

I split my time between my home and the Edinburgh office. Hybrid working works really well for me. It’s nice to get into the office and meet people from different teams and put names to faces.

I previously worked fully remotely in a bigger company. I worked with international teams and there were some people who didn’t put on their cameras, so I’d worked with them for two years and never even know what they looked like.  

Project Management is an odd role in that you don’t necessarily spend time with the other Project Managers, but Sharon (Quorum’s Head of Project Management)  is very good at bringing the whole team together and knowledge sharing etc.  

Any notable moments from your first 6 months?

My second day in Quorum was the company AGM which was an interesting introduction! You could tell who are the extroverts and introverts in the company by their reaction to the AGM. Plus the evening drinks meant I got to meet a lot of people in a more relaxed setting, so it was a great way to break the ice with new colleagues! 

I’ve completed the first half of the Prince2 Project Management Qualification and i’m looking forward to finishing that.

I’ve also enjoyed completing a range of projects for a few different clients. It‘s been great to meet so many people and work across different technologies! 

How is Quorum different from other employers? 

I came to Quorum from a big multinational company, which is so different to being here. It’s got the benefit of feeling like you’re working in a smaller company so you don’t just get lost in the numbers, but it doesn’t have the manic start-up feel either, there’s processes in place and people know what they are doing.  

There’s definitely a good company culture and you can tell people expend a lot of time and effort trying to facilitate that, even with so many people working from home.  

I think the way Quorum interacts with clients is quite unique too. Because we are employee owned, it’s not all about the bottom-line. It’s a much more relaxed environment which I think ends up working really well, it fosters better work and therefore improves customer satisfaction. It all works quite nicely.  

What do you hope to achieve in the next six months? 

I want to complete the second half of the Prince2 qualification.

And then I have quite a big project for a Scottish Council. We’re working on a migration project and it’s a big piece of work for them. We’re working to some tight deadlines as everything has to be done over the summer period when the secondary schools are out. So I’m hoping that is successful and all goes to plan!
