SENIOR CLOUD ARCHITECT

Quorum are looking to add a permanent Senior Cloud Architect to our growing team. We are looking for an experienced individual to help our clients design, deliver and operate secure, resilient cloud and hybrid solutions across leading cloud platforms. You will lead technical discovery, define target architectures and patterns, and provide assurance through delivery to ensure outcomes are achieved safely, predictably and cost-effectively.

The role is fast paced and varied, combining hands-on technical leadership with client advisory. You will help shape our clients’ cloud capabilities, uplift delivery standards, and mentor engineers.

The role of  Senior Cloud Architect:

  • Lead technical discovery with clients, translating business outcomes into secure, scalable cloud and hybrid architectures.
  • Support pre-sales and bid activities, shaping solution options, estimates and technical approaches.
  • Engage in defining scope and approach, documenting key risks, assumptions and dependencies, and aligning them with stakeholders.
  • Define target architectures, reference patterns and guardrails (including landing zone principles) to enable consistent, repeatable delivery.
  • Design security-by-design solutions, covering IAM, key/secrets management, network segmentation, logging/monitoring and policy enforcement.
  • Architect reliable platforms and workloads with appropriate resilience, backup, disaster recovery and operational runbooks (RTO/RPO aligned).
  • Enable delivery teams through Infrastructure as Code standards, automated pipelines, and repeatable build-and-release practices.
  • Provide architecture assurance: review designs, manage technical risks, and ensure solutions remain aligned to scope, cost and security requirements.
  • Support cloud financial management (FinOps): cost models, tagging/chargeback principles, and optimisation opportunities.
  • Mentor engineers and consultants, contributing to knowledge sharing, standards and continuous improvement.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven track record designing and delivering cloud and hybrid architectures in a consultancy or multi-client environment.
  • Strong understanding of networking, connectivity and segmentation patterns, including secure ingress/egress and private connectivity concepts.
  • Strong security foundations: identity and access management, least privilege, encryption, key/secrets management, vulnerability management, and audit/monitoring.
  • Experience designing resilient multi-region or multi-site architectures, with clear disaster recovery strategies and defined RTO/RPO.
  • Automation-first mindset with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management and CI/CD pipeline practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to present options and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and to produce high-quality architecture documentation (HLD/LLD and decision records).

Technologies

  • Public cloud and hybrid platforms; compute (virtual machines, autoscaling, containers/Kubernetes).
  • Networking (segmentation, DNS, load balancing, private connectivity).
  • Identity and security (IAM, MFA, key/secrets management, encryption, policy enforcement).
  • Data and storage (object/block/file storage, backup/archiving, replication).
  • Resilience (multi-region design, disaster recovery)
  • Automation (Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, pipelines, scripting).
  • Observability (logging, metrics, tracing, SIEM integration).

Key outcomes/measures of success

  • Clear target architecture and roadmap agreed with stakeholders, including decisions and trade-offs captured.
  • Secure cloud/hybrid foundations established (guardrails, identity, networking, logging/monitoring) that teams can reuse.
  • Workloads delivered/migrated successfully with measurable improvements in resilience, operability and cost transparency.
  • Delivery teams enabled through patterns, automation and mentoring, reducing rework and increasing consistency.

Typical deliverables

  • Architecture diagrams and narrative (HLD) with documented assumptions, dependencies and risks.
  • Detailed designs (LLD), build standards, patterns and decision records.
  • Security design artefacts (IAM model, network segmentation, logging/monitoring approach) aligned to client governance.
  • Infrastructure as Code modules/blueprints and deployment pipelines aligned to delivery standards.
  • Operational handover pack: runbooks, monitoring/alerting, backup/DR procedures and support model.
